The 3.5 mL well volume and approximately 15.5 mm inner well diameter accommodate working volumes of 1–2.5 mL for primary cell culture, organoid embedding in Matrigel or basement membrane extract, and virus propagation assays requiring the large well surface area that virus plaque visualization demands. The 24-well format is the WHO-recommended and ATCC-standard format for plaque assay and TCID50 virus titration.
The flat bottom provides consistent optical imaging of cell monolayers and supports 15 mm round coverslip placement for high-magnification confocal and widefield fluorescence imaging of cells grown directly in the well.
