Which fill should I choose for my floor?

Horsehair and fine flagged synthetic fills hold fine dust and suit smooth, sealed indoor floors. Tampico is a stiffer natural fibre that resists water, for medium sweeping and damp areas. Palmyra is coarse and stiff, for rough concrete, loading docks and outdoor debris. Polypropylene will not absorb water or rot, which makes it the choice for wash-down areas and anywhere chemicals are present.

What does 'flagged' mean?

Flagged bristles are split at the tip. The split ends catch and hold fine dust instead of pushing it ahead of the broom, which is why a flagged fill sweeps fine debris better than an unflagged one of the same material.

What block width do I need?

A wider block covers ground faster but is harder to control and needs a brace to stop it flexing. 18" and 24" suit most shop and warehouse work; 36" is for long open runs.

What is the brace for?

The brace ties the handle back to the block. Without one, a wide block flexes under load and the broom skips instead of sweeping. On a 30" or 36" broom a brace is not optional.

Are the handles interchangeable?

Mostly, but check the fitting. A threaded handle screws into a tapped block; a tapered handle drives into an untapped one. They are not interchangeable with each other.
