Work from the volume of air in the room, not the floor area alone. Required airflow in CFM = (room length × width × ceiling height ÷ 60) × your target air changes per hour (ACH). Match that against each unit's manufacturer-rated airflow — JADE 2.0 delivers 135 to 448 CFM, ONYXsca 125 / 195 / 240 CFM, COBALT 2×2 430 CFM, COBALT 2×4 1,171 CFM, and ATOMIKAIR 17,383 CFM. The selector above does the arithmetic. Your ACH target is set by your own specification or your engineer, not by us.

For medical and dental settings we typically recommend 15–20 ACH, due to the higher potential concentration of viruses, bacteria, aerosols and other airborne contaminants in those spaces. That is several times the 4–6 range a general office or classroom is usually specified at. A 1,200 sq ft operatory with a 9 ft ceiling needs 900 CFM at 5 ACH but 2,700 CFM at 15 ACH, so the unit count changes substantially. Selecting Dental / medical in the selector sets that target for you.

Divide 60 by your target. At 5 ACH the full volume of air in the room passes through filtration once every 12 minutes; at 8 ACH every 7 minutes 30 seconds; at 15 ACH every 4 minutes; at 20 ACH every 3 minutes. The selector shows this for whichever target you pick, along with the airflow your room needs to achieve it.

Because a purifier moves air by volume, not by floor plan. A 1,200 sq ft room with a 16 ft ceiling holds twice the air of the same room at 8 ft, so it needs twice the airflow to reach the same air changes per hour. A single square-footage rating cannot describe both rooms, which is why the selector asks for the height.

JADE 2.0 up to 1,500 sq ft, ONYXsca up to 1,000 sq ft, COBALT 2×2 up to 861 sq ft, COBALT 2×4 up to 2,152 sq ft, and ATOMIKAIR up to 40,000 sq ft. On the JADE 2.0 the manufacturer states that 1,500 sq ft figure as up to 2.5 air changes per hour. If your target is higher than that, or your ceiling is higher than the figure assumes, size on airflow instead.

Surgically Clean Air rates the COBALT's MERV 16 HEPA-RX medium at 99.97% at 0.3 microns, and publishes 99.97% at 0.3 microns for the JADE 2.0 as well. The JADE 2.0 specification sheet in our file also states an H13-grade HEPA-Rx filter at 99.95% efficiency at MPPS, the manufacturer's own term. Yes. The 2×2 replaces one 24 × 24 in tile and the 2×4 replaces one 24 × 48 in tile in a standard suspended T-bar grid. The manufacturer lists them at 44 lbs and 96 lbs respectively, so the grid and any seismic bracing must be rated for the load — have your contractor confirm before ordering.
