Technical Narrative
The Caplugs® Evergreen MST™ is a blue HDPE recessed-top cryogenic vial cap for MST™ cryogenic vials. The recessed-top profile means the cap's top surface sits below the outer rim of the cap body — protecting the top surface from contact damage in cryo boxes and during vial handling. Blue recessed-top caps mirror the CLSI H3 blue-top citrate convention for recessed-top MST™ vial cryo archives. The recessed top is the most economical MST™ cap profile at $17.77/200-bag — $2.01/bag less than flat-top (300-3910, $19.78) and $0.96/bag less than tethered recessed (300-3918, $18.73).
Like all MST™ caps, the recessed-top profile is engineered for LN₂ vapor phase (-196°C) and immersion storage, and is not interchangeable with CryoSure® vials. The recessed-top cap removes completely from the vial — unlike the Tethered Recessed (300-3918) where the cap stays attached to the vial after opening via a flexible tether. Only 3 colors are available in the recessed-top format: Natural, Blue, and Yellow.

What is the recessed-top cap profile and how does it differ from flat-top?
On a recessed-top cap, the top surface sits below the outer rim of the cap body — the rim forms a protective ring around the top. On a flat-top cap (300-3910), the top surface is flush with the rim. The recessed profile protects the cap top from contact damage during vial stacking and handling in cryo boxes. The recessed-top is also the lowest-priced MST™ profile ($17.77/200-bag vs $19.78 for flat-top).
Why are only 3 colors available in the recessed-top format?
The MST™ recessed-top range (300-3914) is available in Natural, Blue, and Yellow — covering the three most common CLSI color conventions: general purpose (Natural), citrate/coagulation (Blue), and SPS/ACD (Yellow). For the full 12-color range, use the MST™ flat-top series (300-3910). For a tethered recessed cap in more colors, see the 300-3918 series (Orange, Green, Lavender, White, Yellow — 5 colors).
Is the recessed-top cap compatible with LN₂ immersion?
Yes. MST™ recessed-top HDPE caps are engineered for LN₂ vapor phase (-196°C) and direct LN₂ immersion. Do not use standard HDPE tube caps at LN₂ temperatures — use only MST™ or CryoSure® caps specifically engineered for cryogenic service. MST™ caps are for MST™ vials only.
