Technical Narrative
The Caplugs® Evergreen MST™ is a amber HDPE flat-top cryogenic vial cap for MST™ cryogenic vials, rated for LN₂ vapor phase (-196°C), LN₂ immersion, and -80°C storage. Amber MST™ caps are the second MST™-exclusive color alongside Chocolate — not available in CryoSure®. Amber HDPE provides partial UV and visible light attenuation, reducing light transmission to the vial contents for specimens sensitive to light but where complete black-out is not required. Amber caps are a well-established convention in pharmaceutical and clinical chemistry for semi-protected storage, bridging the gap between clear caps (no protection) and black caps (complete blockage).
Amber is the second MST™-exclusive color alongside Chocolate (300-3910-FM20). In the pharmaceutical and clinical chemistry convention, amber-colored containers reduce UV and visible light transmission — protecting photosensitive contents better than clear but less completely than opaque black. For complete light blockage, the Black MST™ cap (300-3910-FZ20) is the specification choice. For partial attenuation where some visual inspection of vial contents is still required, Amber provides the intermediate option. Neither Amber nor Chocolate is available in the CryoSure® range.

Amber provides partial UV and visible attenuation — amber-colored HDPE reduces light transmission significantly but remains translucent enough for visual inspection of vial contents. Choose Amber when some light protection is required but the ability to visually verify vial contents is also needed; choose Black when maximum light exclusion is the priority.
Are MST™ caps compatible with LN₂ immersion storage?
Yes. MST™ HDPE caps are engineered for LN₂ vapor phase (-196°C) and direct LN₂ immersion. Do not use standard HDPE tube caps (300-3010, 300-3532, 300-3541) at LN₂ temperatures — use only caps specifically engineered for cryogenic service on your cryo vials.
