Technical Narrative
The Caplugs® Evergreen MST™ is a natural HDPE flat-top cryogenic vial cap for MST™ cryogenic vials — the flat-profile variant of the Caplugs® Evergreen cryo vial cap range. The defining difference from CryoSure® caps (300-3900 series) is the cap profile: MST™ caps have a flat top surface; CryoSure® caps have a dome top. The flat profile provides two workflow advantages: (1) improved stacking density in high-density cryo boxes where flat-top caps allow vials to be inverted or stacked with less airspace between layers; (2) more consistent robotic cap engagement in automated cryo vial handling systems that prefer the uniform flat surface for cap-on/cap-off torque tools. MST™ caps are specific to MST™ vials and are not interchangeable with CryoSure® vials or other vial formats.
Like CryoSure® caps, MST™ caps are HDPE-engineered for LN₂ vapor phase (-196°C), LN₂ immersion, and -80°C mechanical freezer storage — and are not substitutable with standard HDPE tube caps from the 300-3010/300-3532/300-3541 families at LN₂ temperatures. The MST™ color range includes 12 colors at $19.78/200-bag — including two colors unique to the MST™ line: Chocolate (300-3910-FM20) and Amber (300-3910-FN20). What is the difference between MST™ caps (300-3910) and CryoSure® caps (300-3900)?
Both are HDPE cryo-rated cryogenic vial caps from Caplugs® Evergreen, but they are designed for different vial formats and have different cap profiles. MST™ caps (300-3910) have a flat top profile and fit MST™ cryogenic vials. CryoSure® caps (300-3900) have a dome top profile and fit CryoSure® cryogenic vials. The two are not interchangeable — always match the cap series to the vial series.
What makes Chocolate (FM20) and Amber (FN20) unique to the MST™ range?
Chocolate (300-3910-FM20) and Amber (300-3910-FN20) are colors available only in the MST™ cap range — not offered in the CryoSure® (300-3900) family. Chocolate provides a distinctive brown color for specialized batch designation in programs that have exhausted the primary CLSI convention colors. Amber provides partial light attenuation — amber-colored HDPE reduces UV and visible light transmission for specimens sensitive to light but where Black caps' complete light blockage is not required. Both expand the MST™ range beyond standard clinical convention colors.
Are MST™ caps compatible with LN₂ immersion storage?
Yes. MST™ HDPE caps are engineered for LN₂ vapor phase (-196°C) and direct LN₂ immersion, equivalent to CryoSure® cap cryo performance. Do not substitute standard HDPE tube caps (300-3010, 300-3532, 300-3541) for LN₂ archive — use only caps specifically engineered for cryogenic temperatures on your cryo vials.
