Technical Narrative

The Caplugs® Evergreen CryoSure® is a dark green HDPE screw cap for CryoSure® cryogenic vials — engineered specifically for cryogenic biorepository storage at liquid nitrogen vapor phase (-196°C) and immersion temperatures, and ultra-low temperature mechanical freezers (-80°C). Standard HDPE tube caps from the 300-3010/300-3532/300-3541 families are rated for -80°C storage; CryoSure® caps extend the cryo rating to -196°C LN₂ — the additional engineering required for the extreme thermal contraction at liquid nitrogen temperatures that can fracture standard HDPE thread geometry and allow cryoprotectant evaporation loss over long-term LN₂ archive. Dark Green caps provide distinct batch differentiation from standard Green — used for specialized cryo batches, specific collection events, or environmental sample archives requiring a visually distinct color.

HDPE CryoSure® caps combine the chemical resistance required for cryogenic vial applications — DMSO cryoprotectant at standard concentrations (5–10%), freezing media (FBS, glycerol, Bambanker), and standard biobank buffer formulations — with autoclave compatibility at 121°C for pre-sterilized cap supply. The 1000/Bag bulk format delivers the per-cap economics for high-volume CryoSure® vial programs at $0.0820/cap versus $0.0886/cap in 200-count bags.

At $81.98 per 1000/Bag — $0.0820 per cap. Also available in 200/Bag trial packs for each color. See the complete color table above.

CryoSure® Cryogenic Vial Cap Application Compatibility

CryoSure® caps fit CryoSure® cryogenic vials for:

Application Use / Storage Notes
Cryogenic vial capping CryoSure® cryogenic vials (Caplugs® Evergreen) HDPE cap engineered for -196°C LN₂ vapor phase storage
Liquid nitrogen vapor storage Biobank LN₂ vapor phase archive at -196°C HDPE cryo-toughened for vapor phase cycling without cap fracture
LN₂ immersion storage Liquid nitrogen immersion cryogenic archive HDPE resists direct LN₂ liquid phase contact
-80°C mechanical freezer Ultra-low temperature biorepository -80°C HDPE maintains thread engagement through -80°C cycling
Biobank specimen archiving Blood, tissue, cell line biobank caps Color-coded caps enable visual specimen-type routing in cryo boxes
Color-coded cryo routing Multi-specimen cryo box organization 9 cap colors map to specimen type, donor cohort, or date batch
Long-term archive replacement Replacing caps on existing cryo vials 200/Bag trial size and 1000/Bag bulk formats available
Clinical biorepository Hospital biobank, transplant program tissue bank HDPE CLSI-convention colors for clinical specimen routing

Always validate cap-to-vial thread fit with a sample. CryoSure® caps are specifically engineered for LN₂ temperatures — do not substitute standard HDPE tube caps for LN₂ archive.

Chemical Resistance — High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) — CryoSure® Grade

CryoSure® HDPE maintains thread integrity and chemical resistance from +121°C autoclave through -196°C LN₂.

Frequently Asked Questions — Caplugs® Evergreen

What is the difference between CryoSure® caps and standard HDPE tube caps?

Standard Caplugs® Evergreen HDPE caps (300-3010, 300-3532, 300-3541) are rated for -80°C ultra-low temperature storage. CryoSure® caps (300-3900) are engineered specifically for cryogenic vial applications at -196°C liquid nitrogen vapor phase and immersion — the additional 50 °C difference from -80°C to -196°C is significant: standard HDPE thread geometry can fracture under the extreme thermal contraction at LN₂ temperatures, allowing cryoprotectant vapor loss over long-term archive. CryoSure® caps are specifically engineered to maintain thread engagement and sealing integrity at LN₂ temperatures.

What is the color convention for dark green CryoSure® caps?

Dark Green caps provide distinct batch differentiation from standard Green — used for specialized cryo batches, specific collection events, or environmental sample archives requiring a visually distinct color. All CryoSure® colors share identical HDPE cryo specification.

Are CryoSure® caps compatible with DMSO cryoprotectant at freezing concentrations?

Yes. HDPE CryoSure® caps are compatible with DMSO at standard cryoprotection concentrations (typically 5–10% DMSO in freezing media). HDPE maintains chemical resistance to DMSO across the full temperature range from room temperature cell suspension preparation through controlled-rate freezing to LN₂ storage and thaw. For unusual DMSO concentrations above 10%, validate compatibility before committing to bulk cap supply.
