Technical Narrative

The Caplugs® Evergreen is a 96-well flat-bottom white Polystyrene (PS) microplate in the SBS/ANSI standard footprint — the workhorse format for ELISA, luminescence, chemiluminescence, and absorbance-based quantitative assays in clinical, research, and high-throughput screening environments. The white well color maximizes luminescence and chemiluminescence signal by reflecting photons from well walls back toward the plate reader detector, providing 2–5-fold higher signal versus equivalent clear or black plates for luciferase reporter assays, ATP bioluminescence, and chemiluminescent ELISA formats. The flat bottom ensures uniform path length across the full well volume for absorbance-based colorimetric ELISA and kinetic enzyme assays.

The 0.37 mL well volume provides the standard working capacity for most 96-well assay formats — accommodating reagent addition sequences, wash steps, and final detection volumes across ELISA (typically 100–200 µL/well), luciferase assays (20–100 µL/well), and cell proliferation assays (100–200 µL/well) without overflow risk. PS construction is compatible with all standard aqueous assay buffers, culture media, and detection reagents including HRP substrates (TMB, OPD), AP substrates (pNPP), and luciferase substrates.

At $127.63 per Box of 9 — $1.4181 per plate — the delivers white PS flat-bottom microplate economics for high-throughput programs running 10–100+ plates per week. Also available: 290-8028-W1F (96-well flat PS White — sterile variant); 290-8029-W1R (96-well round-bottom PS White).

Assay & Application Compatibility — 96-Well Flat Bottom White PS

White PS flat-bottom 96-well plates are the standard format for luminescence, chemiluminescence, and absorbance-based assays. Compatible workflows:

Application Assay / Use Notes
ELISA / colorimetric assays OD absorbance at 405, 450, 490, 570 nm White PS maximizes bottom read luminescence — ideal for chemiluminescence
Cell proliferation assays MTT, MTS, WST-1, BrdU incorporation Flat bottom essential for absorbance-based cell viability reads
Luminescence assays Luciferase reporter, ATP bioluminescence White well walls maximize signal reflection for top and bottom read
Fluorescence intensity (FI) GFP, RFP, fluorescent dye quantification White plate for fluorescence intensity — not recommended for FRET
DNA / RNA quantification PicoGreen, RiboGreen, SYBR fluorescent dyes Flat bottom suits spectrophotometric well-plate DNA quantification
Immunoassay MSD / Meso Scale Electrochemiluminescence plate-based assays Flat bottom required for MSD sector imager electrode contact
High-content screening Phenotypic cell imaging at plate level Validate flat-bottom optical quality for imaging-based assays
Absorbance kinetics Enzyme kinetics, substrate consumption Flat bottom ensures consistent path length across well volume

White plates enhance luminescence and chemiluminescence signal by reflecting photons from the well walls back toward the detector. For fluorescence assays where well cross-talk is a concern, black plates are preferred. For cell-based imaging, clear-bottom plates are required.

Chemical Resistance — Polystyrene (PS)

White PS provides maximum luminescence signal enhancement. Not autoclave-compatible. Avoid acetone and chlorinated solvents.

Laboratory Applications

The serves immunology and infectious disease labs running ELISA-based antibody and antigen quantification; drug discovery programs using luciferase reporter assays and ATP bioluminescence viability; clinical diagnostic labs running chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA) formats; biochemistry labs performing enzyme kinetic and substrate consumption assays; cell biology programs measuring proliferation and cytotoxicity with colorimetric dyes (MTT, MTS, WST-1); genomics and proteomics labs quantifying nucleic acids and proteins by fluorescent dye plate assays; and any research or clinical setting requiring a high-performance white PS flat-bottom 96-well plate at bulk economics.

Frequently Asked Questions — Caplugs® Evergreen

Why use a white plate versus a clear or black plate for ELISA and luminescence?

Plate color determines how photons are handled in the well. White plates reflect light from well walls back toward the detector — maximizing signal for luminescence (luciferase, ATP bioluminescence) and chemiluminescence (ECL ELISA, CLIA) assays by 2–5x versus clear. Clear plates transmit light — used for absorbance assays requiring transmission-mode reads or cell-based imaging. Black plates absorb stray light — used for fluorescence assays where well cross-talk and background autofluorescence must be minimized. For standard ELISA with HRP/TMB or luminescence-based assays, white is the correct choice for maximum sensitivity.

Is the plate compatible with automated plate readers?

Yes. The conforms to the SBS/ANSI 96-well microplate standard footprint (127.76 × 85.47 mm), ensuring compatibility with all standard microplate readers including SpectraMax, PHERAstar, Synergy (BioTek/Agilent), Infinite (Tecan), and EnVision (PerkinElmer). The flat bottom supports both top-read and bottom-read absorbance, fluorescence intensity, and luminescence detection modes.

Is the microplate sterile?

The is Non-Sterile as supplied — the standard specification for ELISA, luciferase, and biochemical assay plates where assay reagents are the primary contamination control, not container sterility. For cell culture applications requiring sterile plates, Caplugs® Evergreen sterile variants (290-8028 family) are available. White PS is not autoclave-compatible — do not attempt to sterilize by autoclaving. Use gamma or UV sterilization if required.
