Model

Measuring salinity, NaCl concentration, or seawater parameters with an optical refractometer requires a steady hand and a shadow-free eyepiece — conditions that are impractical in field work, wastewater processing, or aquaculture environments. The VEE GEE Scientific MDX-Series Digital Salinity Refractometer replaces the eyepiece with a large LCD display and presses temperature compensation into every reading via ATC — delivering accurate results in seconds from a 4–5 drop sample regardless of ambient light or operator experience.

IP65/67 rated for water-jet and dust resistance — appropriate for aquaculture tanks, wastewater treatment facilities, and outdoor sampling environments where moisture exposure is unavoidable. Each MDX model measures 4 scales simultaneously on a single sample, displayed together on the screen. Includes hard shell case, disposable pipette, and battery.

Features and Benefits

  • 4 Measurement Scales per Model: MDX-201 measures NaCl%, Refractive Index, g/L, and Brix simultaneously on a single sample. MDX-202 measures Salinity (ppt), Chlorinity (‰), Specific Gravity, and Refractive Index.

  • ATC for Field Accuracy: Temperature compensation is automatic — critical for environmental field sampling where ambient temperature varies throughout a measurement session.

  • IP65/67 for Aquatic Environments: Water-jet resistant and dustproof — appropriate for direct use near aquaculture tanks, in wastewater treatment facilities, and in outdoor sampling contexts.

  • LCD Display: All scales and sample temperature display simultaneously — no separate thermometer needed to document measurement conditions.

  • Continuous Loop Average: Multiple successive readings averaged automatically — useful for water samples with suspended particulates where individual drop readings may vary.

  • Full Kit Included: Hard shell protective case, disposable pipette, AAA battery, and user manual — ready for immediate use after distilled water calibration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between MDX-201 and MDX-202?
MDX-201 (48201) is optimized for NaCl solutions — it measures sodium chloride percentage, g/L concentration, Brix, and Refractive Index. MDX-202 (48202) is designed for natural seawater and marine applications — it measures Salinity in ppt (parts per thousand), Chlorinity, Specific Gravity, and Refractive Index. For aquaculture and marine use, choose MDX-202. For industrial salt brine and food processing, choose MDX-201.

Is MDX-202 accurate for artificial seawater mixes used in aquariums?
Yes — MDX-202 measures real seawater salinity parameters directly. Both natural and synthetic seawater mixes refract comparably at equivalent salinity. Calibrate with deionized water before use.

Can MDX-201 measure other chloride salts beyond NaCl?
MDX-201 is calibrated specifically for sodium chloride solutions. Other ionic solutions will read on the Refractive Index scale, but the NaCl% and g/L scales will not be accurate for non-NaCl salt solutions. For broader ionic analysis, contact VEE GEE Scientific for application guidance.

Quality Assurance

VEE GEE Scientific MDX-Series refractometers are manufactured to IP65/67 standards with factory-calibrated prism assemblies. Each unit undergoes ATC performance verification and LCD display testing prior to shipment. The hard shell carrying case provides drop protection for field deployment. VEE GEE backs the MDX series with a 1-year warranty.
