A microscope camera without a calibration slide is a viewing device, not a measuring device. Image capture software reports distances in pixels until something tells it what a pixel is worth — and that conversion changes every time you switch objectives. The LW Scientific Stage Micrometer is the physical reference that turns pixel counts into real dimensions.
What It Does
The slide carries a 1 mm scale divided into 100 equal parts, giving 0.01 mm (10 µm) per division. Place it on the stage, focus, and capture an image at each objective you use. The software is then calibrated against a known physical distance, and every subsequent measurement at that objective traces back to a real reference rather than an assumption.
Recalibration is required any time you change objectives, swap cameras, or change the C-mount adapter — each of those alters the pixels-per-micron ratio.
Specifications
- Scale length: 1 mm
- Divisions: 100
- Resolution: 0.01 mm (10 µm) per division
- Material: Plastic
- Format: Standard microscope slide footprint
- Manufacturer part number: MSS-STGE-MCMR
Compatibility
Fits any standard microscope stage. Works with compound, stereo, and inverted microscopes, and is used to calibrate USB and C-mount digital microscope cameras as well as to verify eyepiece reticle scales. The 10 µm division suits compound objectives from 4× through 100×, and is fine enough to calibrate measurement of particles in the 50–500 µm range with confidence.
Note: this is a precision plastic slide manufactured to consistent tolerances. It is not supplied with an individual NIST-traceable certificate. If your quality system requires documented traceability, contact us before ordering.
