Most multi-size tube racks lock you into a fixed well configuration. The Heathrow Scientific HS29040B Rota-Rack® changes that with a modular rotating design: each individual module within the rack can be twisted independently to expose a different well size — switching from 15 mL wells to 1.5/2.0 mL wells to 0.5 mL wells to 0.2 mL wells with a simple rotation, without changing racks or removing tubes from adjacent positions.

Compatible with culture, centrifuge, microcentrifuge, and round, flat, or conical-bottomed tubes. Autoclavable polypropylene construction. Each Rota-Rack includes four color segments (Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple) for visual differentiation across the rack. Designed for labs that work across multiple tube sizes in a single experiment and need a single rack that adapts in real time.

Features and Benefits

  • Twist-Adjustable Modules - 4 Tube Size Configurations: Each module rotates independently to expose 15 mL (16.4mm), 1.5/2.0 mL (11.2mm), 0.5 mL (8mm), or 0.2 mL (6.5mm) wells — reconfigure individual positions without disturbing adjacent loaded modules.

  • Compatible with All Common Tube Formats: Supports culture, centrifuge, microcentrifuge, and PCR tube formats — round, flat, and conical-bottomed tubes all work within the appropriate module size setting.

  • Interlocked Color Segments: Four color segments (Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple) provide built-in visual sample organization — assign colors to tube types, sample categories, or users within a single rack.

  • Autoclavable Polypropylene: Full rack and all modular components withstand standard 121°C autoclave cycles — sterilize the complete assembled rack between experiments.

  • Compact 8.2 × 3.9 × 3.9 in Footprint: Full-featured multi-size rack in a bench-efficient profile — replaces multiple single-size racks with one versatile unit.

  • Customizable Per-Position Configuration: Unlike fixed-well multi-size racks, the Rota-Rack allows each position to be set independently — configure any combination of tube sizes within the same rack simultaneously.

Laboratory Applications

  • Multi-step molecular biology protocols where tube sizes change between steps — reconfigure the Rota-Rack in place rather than swapping to a different rack

  • Genomics and NGS library prep workflows that use 0.2 mL PCR tubes, 1.5 mL low-bind tubes, and 15 mL bead cleanup tubes in the same protocol

  • Teaching and training labs where a single adjustable rack supports instruction across different tube format exercises without maintaining multiple specialized racks

  • Space-constrained benches where replacing 4 single-size racks with one Rota-Rack recovers significant bench area while maintaining full multi-size tube organization capability

Frequently Asked Questions

How do the rotating modules work — do they lock into position?
Each module within the Rota-Rack is a cylindrical segment that rotates on a central axis with a twist. The modules click into the selected well-size position and remain stable during normal tube handling — they don't freely spin once set. A deliberate twist is required to change to a different well size configuration.

Can I set different modules to different tube sizes at the same time?
Yes — that is the core design advantage of the Rota-Rack. Each module is completely independent. You could, for example, configure 3 modules at 1.5 mL, 2 modules at 0.5 mL, and 1 module at 15 mL simultaneously within the same rack.

What does the well count (6, 9, 12, 32) refer to?
These are the number of tube positions available in each module when rotated to that well size. The 15 mL configuration provides 6 positions per module (larger well diameter = fewer positions), while the 0.2 mL configuration provides 32 positions per module (smallest well = most positions).

Is the Rota-Rack compatible with Eppendorf® and Bio-Rad® branded microcentrifuge tubes?
Yes. The well sizes cover standard outer diameters for all major-brand 0.2 mL, 0.5 mL, 1.5 mL, 2.0 mL, and 15 mL tubes from Eppendorf®, Bio-Rad®, Corning®, and equivalent manufacturers.

Quality Assurance

Heathrow Scientific engineers the Rota-Rack® from polypropylene tested for reliable module rotation action, precise well geometry across all four tube size settings, and structural integrity through autoclave cycling. Each module's rotation mechanism is tested for consistent click-engagement and resistance to unintentional rotation during normal tube handling.
