Common questions

Will these tips fit my pipettes?

Universal tips are moulded to the standard hub taper and seat on most air-displacement pipettors. Rainin's LTS fitting is not a taper and needs an LTS-specific tip, so check which system you run before ordering. Where a tip is cut for a particular instrument the listing says so.

What does a filter tip actually do?

A porous barrier sits between the liquid and the pipette shaft. It stops aerosols and accidental over-aspiration reaching the instrument, which is why filter tips are standard for PCR and qPCR set-up, RNA work and anything where carry-over between samples would invalidate the result. They also help with volatile and viscous liquids.

Racked, bulk bag or refill — which should I order?

Racked tips arrive ready to pipette and carry the most plastic per tip. A bulk bag is the lowest cost per tip and you load your own racks. A refill or reload is a pre-aligned stack that drops into a rack you already own — less plastic than racked, less handling than bulk.

Sterile or non-sterile?

Sterile tips are for cell culture, clinical samples and nucleic-acid work. Non-sterile is appropriate for general chemistry, buffer preparation and QC. Each listing states which it is.
