Cryogenic gloves protect your hands — but a spill or splash during liquid nitrogen dispensing, dewar filling, or open-vessel sample transfers doesn't stop at your wrists. The TempShield CRYO-APRON® extends cryogenic protection down the front of your body from chest to upper thigh, covering the torso and upper legs that gloves cannot. Constructed from state-of-the-art lightweight waterproof materials with multi-layered insulation rated to −196°C (−320°F), the CRYO-APRON® protects against both cryogenic liquid splash and convective cold exposure during extended work over open cryogenic vessels. CE Category III certified under EN 511, EN 388, and EN ISO 13688. Adjustable neck and waist straps with quick-release buckles for fast donning and doffing between tasks. Available in three lengths — 24"×36", 24"×42", and 24"×48" — in Blue and Pink (36" and 42") or Blue only (48"). Manufactured in the USA by TempShield.

Important: CRYO-APRON® is not rated for liquid nitrogen immersion. It is designed to protect against splashes, drips, and brief surface contact with cryogenic liquids. Pair with TempShield Waterproof CRYO-GLOVES® (WRSWP Series) and the CRYO-PROTECTION® Face Shield (FSH1001) for complete upper-body cryogenic PPE coverage.

Features and Benefits

  • Rated to −196°C (−320°F) — covers the torso and upper legs gloves cannot reach — liquid nitrogen splashes during dispensing and filling land on the front of the body, not just the hands; the CRYO-APRON® closes the protection gap between glove cuffs and the chest, abdomen, and upper thighs that are directly exposed during bench-height and waist-height cryogenic work

  • Three lengths — 24"×36", 24"×42", 24"×48" — for height-matched torso coverage — 36" covers chest to mid-thigh for most users at standard bench height; 42" extends to lower thigh for taller users or work over lower-positioned dewars; 48" provides the maximum coverage for standing over floor-level cryogenic vessels or LN2 filling stations where splash trajectory reaches the lower body

  • Waterproof multi-layered construction — lightweight for unrestricted movement — the waterproof outer layer blocks cryogenic liquid from penetrating to the body; the insulating layers absorb the thermal energy of cold contact; the lightweight construction avoids the restriction and fatigue of heavy protective garments during extended cryogenic work sessions

  • CE Category III certified — EN 511, EN 388, EN ISO 13688 — the highest EU PPE classification; EN ISO 13688 is the general protective clothing standard covering ergonomics, aging, sizing, and marking; CE Cat. III documentation supports OSHA PPE program records, GLP safety audits, and GMP facility inspection requirements for certified body protection PPE

  • Adjustable neck and waist straps — quick-release buckles for fast removal — the adjustable straps ensure a secure fit across different body sizes without requiring a separate sizing selection; quick-release buckles at both neck and waist allow the apron to be removed in a single motion in emergency situations without fumbling with tied closures or pull-over removal

  • Blue and Pink — same specifications, two-color visual management — Blue (CA prefix) and Pink (P-CA prefix) variants are dimensionally and functionally identical; 24"×48" is available in Blue only; use two-color designation for user assignment or work-area identification in shared cryogenic labs; pairs visually with Blue and Pink CRYO-GLOVES® for matched PPE sets

  • 90-day warranty, USA manufactured — TempShield ISO-compliant domestic production; inspect the apron before each use for tears, delamination of insulating layers, or buckle mechanism failure; replace immediately if waterproof outer layer integrity is compromised

Laboratory Applications

  • Liquid Nitrogen Dispensing & Dewar Filling — standing over open LN2 dewars and bulk supply tanks during filling operations; LN2 splash and boiloff vapor contact the front of the body throughout the filling process; the 42" or 48" length is recommended for floor-level or low-positioned dewar filling where the splash zone extends to the lower body

  • Open-Vessel Cryogenic Sample Transfers — Biobank & Cell Repository — moving sample racks and cryovials between open LN2 containers at bench height; torso exposure during the lean-in required to reach inside large open LN2 storage vessels; pairs with Waterproof CRYO-GLOVES® for complete hand-to-torso coverage during sample retrieval

  • Cryogenic Flash-Freezing Protocols — snap-freezing tissue samples and cell pellets in open LN2 baths; splash during sample submersion contacts the chest and abdomen; the 36" length provides adequate coverage for most bench-top flash-freezing workflows at standard lab bench height

  • Histology & Cryostat Sample Preparation — loading and unloading tissue samples from LN2 into cryostat chucks and embedding molds; the CRYO-APRON® protects the body during the transfer step before the sample reaches the cryostat chuck without the bulk of a full lab coat over a cryogenic work area

  • GMP Cryogenic Fill-Finish & Pharmaceutical Cold Chain — cryogenic vial filling operations and freeze-dry loading in pharmaceutical manufacturing where CE Cat. III body protection documentation is required by the facility hazard assessment and regulatory inspection readiness protocols

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between 36", 42", and 48" lengths?
The right length depends on your height and the position of your cryogenic work surface. As a general guide: 36" covers chest to mid-thigh and suits most users doing bench-top work (standard 36" bench height) — it is the most common choice for laboratory dispensing and sample transfer work. 42" extends coverage to lower thigh and is appropriate for taller users (over 5'10") or for work over slightly lower surfaces. 48" provides the fullest coverage and is recommended for standing over floor-level LN2 vessels, filling stations, or large open dewars where the lower body is in the splash zone. When in doubt, choose longer — the quick-release buckles allow fast removal regardless of length.

Why is 24" × 48" only available in Blue, not Pink?
TempShield manufactures the 48" length in Blue only. The 36" and 42" lengths are available in both Blue (CA prefix) and Pink (P-CA prefix). If Pink is required for your 48" application, the CRYO-INDUSTRIAL® Apron (CI-A48) is available in a 48" length in Blue and extends to 54" as well, though it has a different construction profile suited to heavier industrial use.

Is the CRYO-APRON® enough on its own, or do I need gloves and a face shield too?
The CRYO-APRON® protects the torso and upper legs only. For complete cryogenic upper-body coverage, it should be used together with cryogenic gloves (Waterproof CRYO-GLOVES® WRSWP Series recommended for open-liquid work) and face/eye protection. The CRYO-PROTECTION® Face Shield (FSH1001) provides ANSI Z87.1 and CE Cat. II certified face and eye protection from cryogenic splash. These three products together — apron, gloves, face shield — constitute the standard complete cryogenic PPE set for open-vessel liquid nitrogen work.

Can the CRYO-APRON® be worn over a standard lab coat?
Yes. The CRYO-APRON® is designed to be worn over standard lab clothing. The adjustable neck and waist straps accommodate wearing over a lab coat without modification. Wearing a lab coat underneath adds a secondary textile layer between the apron and the body, which can be beneficial in environments with extended cold air exposure. The quick-release buckles work the same way regardless of underlayers.

Quality Assurance

TempShield CRYO-APRON® is manufactured in the United States under ISO-compliant quality management and independently certified CE Category III under EN 511, EN 388, and EN ISO 13688. The waterproof outer layer and insulating construction undergo integrity testing as part of production quality control. Each apron carries a 90-day warranty. Inspect buckle function and outer layer integrity before each use; replace any apron with compromised waterproof surface or failed closure hardware before returning to cryogenic service.
