The Globe Scientific Ultra HD 4K Camera (EVC-3042) is the most advanced microscope camera in the Globe Scientific catalog, delivering 3840x2160 pixel resolution through a 1/1.8-inch Sony 4K CMOS sensor at up to 60 frames per second. It operates in two modes: standalone (embedded mouse-driven software, HDMI output to any 4K monitor) or computer-controlled (via Wi-Fi connection with ImageFocus Alpha software). A 0.5x C-mount objective, HDMI cable, micro-SD card, and USB mouse are included.
Dual-Mode Operation: Maximum Flexibility
No other Globe Scientific camera offers both standalone and PC-controlled operation. In standalone mode, connect the camera to any 4K-capable monitor, TV, or projector via HDMI 2.0 — the embedded software provides live viewing, image capture to micro-SD card, and measurement functions without any computer. In PC mode, a provided Wi-Fi dongle connects the camera to a computer running ImageFocus Alpha for advanced analysis, software-controlled capture, and network integration. Switch between modes based on your workflow needs without changing hardware.
Why 4K Resolution at 60fps Changes What You Can Do
At 3840x2160 pixels and 60 frames per second, the Ultra HD 4K camera provides real-time viewing with no perceptible lag at a resolution four times higher than standard HD. On a 4K display, fine specimen details — grain boundaries in metallography, individual cell processes in culture, micro-cracks in material surfaces — are visible in the live feed that would be invisible on a 1080p screen. The 60fps rate ensures smooth panning and focusing without the stuttering that occurs with high-resolution cameras limited to lower frame rates. The 16-bit ADC and 36-bit color depth provide wider dynamic range and more nuanced color reproduction than the 12-bit/24-bit CMEX Pro line.
4K Camera vs. CMEX-18 Pro: Different Tools for Different Jobs
The CMEX-18 Pro (EDC-18000-PRO) captures higher-resolution still images (18MP vs. 8.3MP) and offers faster USB-3 data transfer to a computer. The Ultra HD 4K camera provides standalone operation, 4K video at 60fps, wider dynamic range (16-bit vs. 12-bit ADC), multiple connectivity options (HDMI, USB-2, Ethernet, Wi-Fi), and the Sony 1/1.8-inch sensor with larger pixels for better low-light performance. Choose the CMEX-18 Pro for maximum still-image resolution and USB-based computer workflow. Choose the Ultra HD 4K for standalone 4K display, video documentation, multi-interface flexibility, and applications where dynamic range and low-light sensitivity matter.
