The Globe Scientific 144-LED Ring Illuminator (ELE-1973) produces 23,000 lux of shadow-free white light at 100mm working distance through 144 high-intensity white LEDs arranged in a ring with 4 independently controllable lighting zones. Each zone can be turned on or off separately, giving you directional lighting control that reveals surface texture, depth, and defects invisible under uniform illumination. A wireless remote control and variable intensity dial provide adjustment without touching the microscope.

4-Segment Directional Control: Why It Matters

A standard ring light illuminates evenly from all directions, which can flatten surface detail. The 4-segment design divides the ring into four independent quadrants. Turn on only one quadrant and light rakes across the specimen from a single direction — shadows form that reveal surface scratches, engraving depth, solder joint contours, and gemstone inclusions. Turn on two opposing quadrants for bilateral illumination. Turn on all four for shadow-free even lighting. This single accessory replaces the need for separate overhead and directional light sources.

Ring Light vs. Gooseneck Illumination

Globe Scientific offers two external illumination options for stereo microscopes. The ELE-1973 ring illuminator mounts directly around the objective for close-range, high-intensity, shadow-free (or directional) illumination at 55-200mm working distance. The ELE-5207 dual gooseneck illuminator provides two flexible arms that can be positioned at any angle, including from the side or behind the specimen — more versatile positioning but lower intensity than the ring and without the 4-segment directional feature. Choose the ring illuminator when intensity, shadow control, and on-axis illumination are priorities. Choose the gooseneck when you need off-axis lighting from extreme angles.

Mounting Compatibility

The ring illuminator fits stereo microscope heads with diameters from 25mm to 61mm. A 48mm mounting ring adapter is included. This covers all Globe Scientific stereo microscopes (NexiusZoom EVO, StereoBlue) and most third-party stereo microscopes. The ring has a 64mm inside diameter and 100mm outside diameter.
