Globe Scientific Peg Tube Rack (456150 series) holds 13mm tubes on 117 individual pegs arranged in a 96-place grid — a fundamentally different design than well-based racks. Each tube sits on a raised peg that enters the tube's open bottom, holding the tube by friction rather than by surrounding it in a well. This design drains residual liquid away from the tube exterior, allows airflow around the entire tube surface for rapid drying, and provides visual confirmation that each tube is properly seated.
Peg Design for Drainage and Drying
After centrifugation and decapping, blood collection tubes may have residual fluid on their exterior. In a well-based rack, this fluid pools at the bottom of the well — an invisible biohazard that contacts every subsequent tube placed in that position. The peg design eliminates pooling: any fluid drains down the peg and off the rack. The open architecture also allows air circulation around each tube, speeding drying after wash steps or autoclaving.
