The Globe Scientific iScope Polarization Microscope (EIS-1053-PLPOLRI) provides transmitted and reflected cross-polarized light observation with Plan polarization PLPOLRI 5/10/20/S50x IOS objectives, a 160mm round rotating stage, rotatable 60° polarizer, slider analyzer, and swing-in Bertrand lens for conoscopic work. This is the microscope-only configuration — ideal for labs that already own a camera system or prefer visual observation without digital imaging.

Microscope-Only vs. Camera Bundle

This model (EIS-1053-PLPOLRI) includes the complete polarization optical system without a camera. If you need a ready-to-image digital polarization workstation, the EIS-1053-PLPOLRI-HDS bundles this same microscope with the HD-Mini 2MP camera and 13-inch HD screen. The trinocular head on this model accepts any C-mount camera through the standard 23.2mm photo tube, so you can add the CMEX Pro series, HD-Mini, or Ultra HD 4K camera later.

Polarization Optical System

  • Eyepieces: EWF 10x/20mm

  • Objectives: Plan polarization PLPOLRI 5x/10x/20x/S50x IOS, strain-free glass for accurate birefringence observation

  • Stage: 160mm round rotating, graduated for crystal orientation measurements

  • Polarizer: Rotatable 60° with click stops

  • Analyzer: Slider-mounted

  • Bertrand Lens: Swing-in for conoscopic interference figure observation

  • Transmitted Illumination: 3W NeoLED Koehler

  • Reflected Illumination: 50W halogen epi-attachment for opaque specimens

Applications

Geological thin section petrography, optical mineralogy teaching and research, crystal identification and measurement, polymer stress analysis under crossed polars, forensic trace evidence examination (fibers, paint, glass), pharmaceutical polymorphism screening, and asbestos identification in environmental analysis. The reflected light attachment enables examination of opaque ore minerals and polished metal sections that cannot be analyzed in transmitted light alone.

iScope Platform Advantages

The iScope platform features height-adjustable eye tubes for ergonomic comfort during extended observation sessions, a large rackless stage with double slide holder (on standard models — this polarization model uses the 160mm round stage), APL antimicrobial coating on all frequently touched surfaces, iCare energy-saving sensor, and an integrated cable storage system. The compact footprint and carrying grip simplify transport between teaching labs or field stations.
