Technical Narrative
The Caplugs® Evergreen is a 96-well deep-well Polystyrene (PS) microplate with 1.0 mL per well — 10× the capacity of standard 96-well plates — in the SBS/ANSI standard footprint compatible with all standard plate liquid handlers, centrifuge adapters, and plate readers. The deep-well format eliminates the volume constraint of standard plates for large-volume DNA extraction, protein digestion, biobank archiving. The tapered bottom enables complete aspiration of well contents with minimal dead volume. Polystyrene (PS) construction provides cost-effective for aqueous workflows.
PS is the cost-effective material choice for standard aqueous deep-well sample prep — DNA/RNA extraction buffers, protein digestion in aqueous matrices, cell lysis in RIPA/NP-40 at standard concentrations, and PCR normalization. PS resists brief acetonitrile contact for protein precipitation workflows. For DMSO-containing matrices or -80°C cryo archive deep-well plates, the PPC variant (290-8553-08N) provides the appropriate material.
At $83.72 per 5/Bag — $4.1856 per plate — the delivers 1.0 mL deep-well PS capacity at per-plate economics for sample prep programs. Also available: 290-8553-08N (PPC Natural, 1.0 mL).

96-Well 1.0 mL Deep Well Plate Compatibility — PS
The 1.0 mL 96-well deep well format provides 10× the volume of standard 96-well plates. Key applications for the PS format:
| Application | Assay / Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| DNA/RNA extraction (high vol.) | Genomic DNA, total RNA from tissue/cells | 1.0 mL suits high-input volume extraction protocols |
| Protein digestion | In-solution trypsin digest, chemical digest | 1.0 mL headspace for digestion buffer + substrate without overflow |
| Cell lysis prep | RIPA, NP-40, buffer lysis at high volume | 10× more lysis buffer vs standard 96-well — better lysis efficiency |
| Sample archiving (1.0 mL) | Biobank plasma, serum, DNA archive plates | 1.0 mL per well for higher-volume biorepository aliquoting |
| PCR normalization | DNA quantification and normalization pre-PCR | 1.0 mL volume for dilution series before transfer to PCR plate |
| Compound dilution | Stock dilution in 1.0 mL before assay transfer | 1.0 mL for larger dilution series vs 0.5 mL deep well |
| Protein precipitation | Acetonitrile/methanol protein crash in 1.0 mL | 1.0 mL accommodates organic:aqueous precipitation ratio |
| High-volume ELISA prep | Sample dilution, antibody prep in 96-well format | 1.0 mL pre-dilution before transfer to assay plate |
Working volume: up to ~0.9 mL per well. Tapered/chamfered bottom enables complete aspiration. For DMSO or cryo requirements, use PPC (290-8553-08N).
Chemical Resistance — Polystyrene (PS)
PS deep-well resists aqueous reagents. Not autoclave-compatible. For DMSO or cryo, use PPC variant.

Frequently Asked Questions — Caplugs® Evergreen
What is the advantage of 1.0 mL deep-well plates over standard 96-well plates?
The 1.0 mL well volume provides 10× the capacity of standard 96-well format wells in the same SBS footprint. This enables: high-volume lysis buffer incubation per well without overflow; larger input volumes for DNA/RNA extraction protocols; complete protein precipitation with adequate organic:aqueous phase ratio; multi-step extraction and wash series in a single well; and per-well biobank aliquoting at higher volumes. The same SBS footprint maintains compatibility with existing automation infrastructure.
When should I use PS deep-well vs PPC (290-8553-08N)?
Choose PS for standard aqueous workflows — DNA/RNA extraction in aqueous buffers, protein digestion, PCR normalization — where DMSO and cryogenic storage are not required. PS is the cost-effective default. Upgrade to PPC (290-8553-08N) when: DMSO is present in the sample matrix or extraction buffer; plates will be stored at -80°C; organic solvent extraction (acetonitrile, methanol) is part of the protocol.
Are the deep-well plates compatible with centrifugation?
Polystyrene (PS) deep-well plates in SBS footprint are compatible with standard centrifuge adapters for 96-well SBS plates. Typical use: 500–4,000 × g for pelleting and clarification. Confirm the g-force limit with your centrifuge rotor manufacturer before exceeding 2,000 × g — deep-well plate walls are thicker than standard plates but g-force limits depend on fill volume and rotor geometry.
