7" Polystyrene SPE Columns with Coarse Filter (90–135 µm) — Natural, 200/Bag (208-3376-050)

These 7" polystyrene solid-phase extraction columns feature an integrated coarse filter disk rated at 90–135 microns, making them the right choice for high-particulate, complex-matrix samples where finer frits would blind prematurely. Supplied non-sterile in 200/Bag format, part number 208-3376-050 is designed for preparative-scale SPE, high-volume environmental water sampling (1–5 L loads), and difficult upstream matrices such as soil extracts, bioreactor broths, and cell lysates that precede GC-MS or LC-MS analysis. The 7" body length provides the largest standard sorbent bed volume in the Caplugs® Evergreen column line, delivering retention capacity and wash-step separation that shorter columns cannot match when sample load or matrix complexity demands it.

Applications

  • High-volume environmental water SPE cleanup with 1–5 L sample loads where maximum bed volume prevents analyte breakthrough
  • Soil and sediment extract cleanup prior to GC-MS or LC-MS, where the 7" bed retains analytes across complex organic matrices
  • Bioreactor broth and cell lysate clarification — the 90–135 µm coarse pore size passes high suspended-solid loads without clogging
  • Preparative-scale pharmaceutical SPE for fraction collection and method scale-up from mini columns
  • Food and agricultural residue QC — pesticide, mycotoxin, and veterinary drug preparation in high-throughput labs
  • Gravity-flow and vacuum manifold workflows requiring maximum throughput in dirty matrices

Chemical Resistance

Reagent / Condition Compatibility
Aqueous buffers and saline Excellent
Dilute acids and bases Good — routine SPE concentrations
Methanol (up to ~50%) Good — within typical SPE organic modifier range
Acetone / chloroform / aromatic solvents Not recommended — PS is susceptible to attack
Ethanol (>70%) / high-concentration alcohols Not recommended
Autoclave / high heat Not suitable — PS is not autoclavable

Quality & Procurement

Made in USA, these columns are produced by Caplugs® Evergreen under ISO 9001 quality management from FDA-compliant, BPA-free, phthalate-free polystyrene resin. The integrated filter disk is molded directly into the column body — not adhesive-bonded — eliminating frit-interface extractables that would interfere with sensitive LC-MS or enzyme-based detection. LabSupplies.com is an authorized Caplugs® Evergreen dealer and ships from USA inventory, typically same business day for stocking items, with volume pricing available for high-throughput labs and institutional procurement. Labs requiring a different frit porosity can select the 7" medium-filter (45–90 µm) or 7" fine-filter (15–45 µm) variants in the same PS/Natural format.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose the coarse (90–135 µm) filter over a finer grade?
The coarse filter is specifically designed for high-particulate matrices — soil extracts, cell lysates, bioreactor broths, and turbid environmental water samples — where finer frits (45–90 µm or 15–45 µm) would blind within the first few samples of a batch run, reducing throughput and increasing per-sample cost. If your matrix is relatively clean, a medium or fine filter may provide better particle retention.

Will these columns fit standard SPE manifolds?
The 7" body is sized for large-format vacuum SPE manifolds (typically 20-port or 24-port tube-format configurations) and standard large-format gravity-flow bench stands. Confirm your manifold or stand accepts 7" tube-format columns before ordering, as some systems are configured only for shorter 3" or 5" columns.

Are these columns compatible with high-organic-content mobile phases?
Polystyrene performs well with aqueous buffers and dilute organic modifiers such as methanol up to approximately 50%. It is not recommended for use with acetone, chloroform, high-concentration alcohols, or aromatic and chlorinated solvents, which can attack the PS matrix and introduce extractables into the eluate.

Are these columns sterile, and can they be autoclaved?
These columns are supplied non-sterile. Polystyrene is not autoclavable, so heat sterilization is not an option. For workflows requiring sterile consumables, consult your lab's cold-sterilization protocols and verify solvent compatibility before use.
