What's the difference between a cylinder truck and a general-purpose hand truck?

A cylinder truck's cradle and hold-chain are sized to a specific cylinder diameter — commonly 9.25" for industrial gas cylinders. A general hand truck uses a flat base plate and toe plate for cartons, appliances and irregular loads. Using a cylinder truck for boxes, or a hand truck for a loose cylinder, is a stability risk either way.

How many cylinders can a dual-cylinder truck carry?

Two, side by side. The base and axle on a dual-rated truck are built wider and heavier than a single-cylinder model, not just two singles bolted together. Moving cylinders in pairs as routine is the reason to choose dual over single.

What's the benefit of a convertible truck over a fixed hand truck?

A convertible truck folds between an upright hand-truck position and a flat platform, replacing two pieces of equipment with one. A push-button quick-change mechanism converts in seconds without tools; a bolted or pinned conversion takes longer and needs a free hand to hold the frame while it adjusts.

Pneumatic or solid rubber wheels — which is right for a hand truck?

Pneumatic (air-filled) wheels absorb shock over gravel, thresholds and rough dock plates. Solid rubber or poly wheels never go flat and need no maintenance on a smooth warehouse or shop floor. Choose based on the surface the truck actually rolls on, not the load it carries.

Are hand trucks sized differently for medical or oxygen cylinders?

Yes. Small oxygen and medical-gas cylinders need a ring diameter and bracket-chain height matched to their own scale — a standard industrial cylinder truck, sized around a 9.25" cylinder, holds a small medical cylinder too loosely to be safe.
