The well count is how many tubes the box holds, and it is set by the divider inside rather than by the box itself. The counts stocked here are 25, 36, 49, 64, 81 and 100. A 100-well grid takes a narrower tube than an 81-well grid of the same footprint, so match the count to the tube diameter you are freezing: microcentrifuge and cryogenic vials suit 81 and 100, 5 mL tubes suit 25, and 15 mL conical tubes suit 36.

Cardboard boxes cost the least and are the usual choice for routine −80 °C storage, but they absorb moisture and will not survive repeated frost and thaw. Corrugated polypropylene is waterproof and reusable. Polycarbonate is the only material here rated for liquid nitrogen at −196 °C. Each listing states its material and its temperature rating.

Racks are specified by the height of the box they take, and the racks here are for 2-inch, 3-inch and 5-inch (130 mm) boxes. Box height is the dimension to check first — a 75 mm tall-format box will not go into a rack cut for 2-inch boxes. The rack listings give the array as well, for example 4×4 for 16 places.

Yes. Replacement cardboard dividers and partitions are listed separately, so a box whose divider has failed does not need replacing outright, and a plain box can be re-gridded to a different well count.
