Couldn't load pickup availability
Two specialized glass hydrometers for applications where standard 305–385 mm instruments are impractical: the VEE GEE Scientific 6605-5H Battery Acid Hydrometer and the 6602-7S Short-Form Specific Gravity Hydrometer.
The 6605-5H (8.7 in, 22 cm) is purpose-designed for lead-acid battery electrolyte — calibrated to 25°C/77°F with 0.005 subdivisions across the 1.150–1.300 SG range that spans discharged through fully charged battery states. It is the factory replacement hydrometer for the VEE GEE 6605-5 Battery Hydrometer Syphon Set (also available separately). The 6602-7S (6.5 in, 16.5 cm) is a short-form version of the standard 6602 precision hydrometer — same 0.001 resolution, but in a compact format that requires significantly less sample volume, suitable for small-diameter containers and limited-sample applications.
Features and Benefits
Battery Acid Specific Gravity (6605-5H): Calibrated specifically for the 1.150–1.300 SG range of lead-acid battery electrolyte — the range corresponding to discharged through fully charged battery states. Designed as the replacement hydrometer for the VEE GEE 6605-5 Battery Hydrometer Syphon Set.
Short-Form Design (6602-7S): At 165 mm (6.5 in) length, the 6602-7S uses significantly less test liquid volume than a standard 305–330 mm hydrometer — useful when sample volume is limited or when working in small-diameter cylinders.
0.001 Subdivisions (6602-7S): Full 0.001-resolution measurement in a compact package — same subdivision as the standard 6602 series in a format suited to low-volume applications.
0.005 Subdivisions (6605-5H): Appropriate resolution for battery state-of-charge monitoring where 0.005 SG changes correspond to meaningful charge state differences.
Calibrated at Standard Reference Temperatures: 6602-7S calibrated at 15°C/60°F; 6605-5H calibrated at 25°C/77°F for battery maintenance applications.

Laboratory Applications
Lead-acid battery state-of-charge monitoring in industrial vehicle fleets, backup power systems, and solar energy storage banks using the 6605-5H
Battery maintenance in golf cart, forklift, and stationary UPS battery banks where regular electrolyte SG monitoring is part of planned maintenance
Limited-volume sample measurement with the 6602-7S where only a small amount of test liquid is available
Compact-format applications where full-length hydrometers are difficult to use due to vessel geometry or working space constraints
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 6605-5H only for the VEE GEE Syphon Set, or can I use it standalone?
6605-5H can be used as a standalone battery acid hydrometer — place it directly in a battery hydrometer bulb syringe or any appropriately sized hydrometer cylinder. It is also the factory replacement hydrometer if the hydrometer in your existing VEE GEE 6605-5 Battery Hydrometer Syphon Set breaks.
What SG corresponds to a fully charged vs. discharged battery?
For a standard 12V lead-acid battery: fully charged electrolyte is typically SG 1.265–1.290. A reading of 1.220–1.240 indicates approximately 50% charge. Below SG 1.160–1.180 the battery is deeply discharged. These values vary with battery type and operating temperature — consult your battery manufacturer for specific charge-state correlation tables.
Can 6602-7S measure samples in the same range as standard 6602 hydrometers?
Yes — 6602-7S covers 1.000–1.070, the same range as the standard 6602-7 (if available), in a compact 165 mm format. Use when your sample volume or container size limits the use of a 305+ mm instrument.
Quality Assurance
VEE GEE Scientific manufactures 6605-5H and 6602-7S hydrometers with permanently graduated glass scales. The 6605-5H is calibrated at 25°C/77°F appropriate for battery maintenance environments. The 6602-7S is calibrated at 15°C/60°F standard reference. Both are covered by a 1-year warranty.
