Technical Narrative

The TrippNT 50592 Cayman Lab Island Cart in White is the double-wide member of the TrippNT Island Cart family — a 47¾″ mobile lab island providing two symmetric half-bays of locking enclosed storage on a single cart frame with a continuous flat-top work surface accessible from front, back, and both ends. Each side of the Cayman is equipped with its own independent locking tambour (roll-top) door, allowing separate key-secured access control to each half-bay — critical for environments requiring two-user access management, material segregation between pre- and post-validation samples, or clean/dirty zone separation within a single mobile island. Two pull-out shelves (one per bay, full-extension) and two bottom shelves (one per bay) provide four organized storage levels per side, for eight total interior storage positions.

At 47¾″ W x 35½″ H x 23⅞″ D and 180 lb, the Cayman is the TrippNT island closest in footprint to a standard 4-foot lab bench section, making it the primary specification for environments reconfiguring fixed bench space to mobile modular islands. The ½″ white HDPE construction provides chemical resistance, corrosion resistance, and non-metal MRI-safe properties consistent across the full TrippNT cart family. Four twin-wheel casters (2 locking, 2 swivel, 4-inch) provide mobility. Ships LTL. Backed by TrippNT’s 100% Lifetime Guarantee.

Laboratory and Clinical Applications

The 50592 Cayman is deployed in laboratory and clinical environments requiring a full-width mobile island workstation with dual-bay secured storage, including pharmaceutical API and QC bench islands where two analysts share the island with separate storage access, academic research lab multi-user shared-prep islands, BSL-2 biosafety-suite mobile central-island prep stations, hospital pharmacy compounding prep islands (USP 797/800 anteroom zones), clinical laboratory specimen-accessioning center islands, ambulatory surgery center central sterile instrument prep islands, veterinary surgery mobile instrument-staging islands, food-and-beverage GMP pilot-lab central prep islands, forensic laboratory evidence-staging center islands, and clean-room-adjacent gowning area equipment islands. The two-door independent access configuration makes the Cayman the primary island specification for any environment requiring material flow separation or access control between the two halves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the two tambour doors on the Cayman 50592 be opened simultaneously, and can they be keyed alike for a single-key facility management program?

Both tambour doors operate independently on their own Hafele cam key locks. Either door can be opened and accessed while the other remains locked. For facilities with a single-key management program, TrippNT can configure both locks with a common key at time of manufacture — contact TrippNT sales at 1-800-874-7768 to specify same-key or unique-key configuration before your order is placed. Retrofitting keying after manufacture requires replacing the Hafele cam cylinders, which is a field-replaceable standard Hafele component.

Is the Cayman 50592 MRI-safe, and is an MRI-compatible version available?

The standard Cayman 50592 is constructed from non-ferrous ½″ HDPE with Hafele zinc-plated steel cam locks, which contain ferrous components. The standard unit is not rated MRI-conditional. For MRI-safe island cart applications, TrippNT offers an explicitly MRI-conditional Cayman variant (51821 White MRI Cayman, $4,328) constructed to eliminate ferrous components and pass ASTM F2052 testing for MRI siting. If the 50592 is being considered for a near-MRI environment, verify your site’s specific Zone classification and specify the 51821 MRI variant for any Zone III or Zone IV use.
