This means the rack drops directly into plate positions on liquid handling robots, automated PCR setup stations, and any deck position designed for SBS-format labware. The standard Globe Scientific cold rack has a slightly non-standard footprint that may not seat correctly on all automation platforms — this SBS version eliminates that compatibility problem.
Cold PCR Setup on Automation Decks
When a liquid handling robot is dispensing master mix, template, primers, and water into a 96-well plate, the plate needs to stay cold throughout the dispensing cycle. At room temperature, the robot may take 15-30 minutes to complete a full plate setup — long enough for enzymes to begin nonspecific activity and for evaporation to alter well volumes at the plate edges. The SBS cold rack holds the plate at 4°C on the robot deck for up to 3 hours, maintaining cold-chain integrity for the entire automated setup regardless of how long the dispensing protocol takes.
Same Color-Change Technology
Purple-to-pink (PCR-COLDPSBS) and green-to-yellow (PCR-COLDYSBS) thermochromic indicators show thermal status across the entire rack surface. On an automation deck where you may not be watching the rack continuously, the color change provides an immediate visual check when you return — has the rack maintained temperature, or does it need to go back to the freezer before the next run?
