OneRack® Half-Size POM Tube Rack — Full Performance in a Compact Footprint
The OneRack® Half-Size POM Tube Rack brings the same proven chemical and temperature resistance of the full-size OneRack® line to a compact half-length format. Designed for laboratories where bench space is at a premium or where small tube batches are processed in parallel, the half-size rack accommodates 9 to 20 tubes in 20mm and 30mm well diameters. Single-piece POM construction means no assembly, no weak joints, and uncompromised performance across the full -40°C to +121°C operating range.
Features & Benefits
- Compact half-size format: Approximately half the footprint of full-size racks, allowing two half-size racks to occupy the space of one full-size rack — ideal for parallel processing of small sample batches or side-by-side experimental replicates.
- POM chemical resistance: Polyoxymethylene withstands acids, bases, solvents, and standard lab reagents that would swell or degrade polyethylene and lower-grade plastics.
- Full temperature range: -40°C to +121°C enables use across the complete laboratory workflow — cryogenic storage, refrigeration, room temperature, water bath incubation, and autoclave sterilization — without rack substitution.
- Teardrop openings: Secure tube retention at the well rim reduces tip-over incidents during handling, pipetting, and transport between instruments.
- Molded coordinate grid: Numbered positions molded into the rack allow tube position tracking without separate maps or handwritten notes.
- Three color options: Available in White, Blue, and Green for project differentiation or workflow stage tracking.
- Case of 8: Eight racks per case for consistent lab stocking and economical per-rack pricing.

Applications
The half-size format is particularly well-suited to side-by-side comparison experiments in research labs, where two conditions must remain spatially separated on the bench while sharing instrument access. Clinical microbiology labs use the 20mm half-rack for organizing blood culture sub-culture tubes and identification tubes during processing runs. Environmental monitoring laboratories processing water samples in 16–18mm culture tubes find the compact rack efficient for high-throughput reading of multiple tube sets on a single bench station. The 30mm half-rack accommodates larger culture tubes and specimen containers in pathology prep areas where bench real estate is constrained. Three colors allow consistent separation of pre-processed, in-process, and completed sample sets.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of tubes fit in the OneRack® Half-Size 20mm and 30mm well versions?
The 20mm version accommodates 10–18mL round-bottom and conical tubes with an outer diameter up to 20mm, including standard 16mm culture tubes and 15mL conical tubes. The 30mm version holds larger culture vessels, specimen jars, and 30mm diameter tubes up to 15–50mL. Always measure your tube's outer diameter to confirm correct well selection before ordering.
Is the OneRack® Half-Size rack autoclavable?
Yes. POM construction supports autoclave cycles up to 121°C. The single-piece design has no crevices, joints, or metal inserts that can trap moisture or compromise sterilization. Allow the rack to cool before reloading tubes. The -40°C lower temperature limit also means these racks can be placed directly into cryogenic freezer boxes for cold sample organization without risk of cracking.
Can half-size OneRack® racks be stacked for storage?
Yes. The molded feet on the underside of each OneRack® rack create a positive interlock when stacked, preventing sliding during transport and storage. Empty racks stack compactly for storage in cabinet drawers or on shelving. Loaded racks should not be stacked unless tubes are capped and secured, as the upper rack's weight may dislodge uncapped tubes in the lower rack.
