The Globe Scientific CMEX-18 Pro 18MP Microscope Camera (EDC-18000-PRO) is the highest-resolution camera in the CMEX Pro USB line, capturing 18 megapixels through a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor with 12-bit grayscale conversion and 24-bit color rendering via high-speed USB-3. When image detail and archival quality matter most — research publications, regulatory documentation, detailed measurement work — the CMEX-18 Pro captures fine structures that lower-resolution cameras cannot resolve.

When 18MP Makes the Difference

Higher resolution does not automatically mean a better camera for every application. The 18MP sensor captures more spatial detail but produces larger files and streams at slower frame rates than the 10MP and 5MP models. The CMEX-18 Pro is the right choice when you routinely crop regions of interest from captured images and need full detail after cropping, when you need to measure fine structures where pixel count determines measurement precision, when images will be published in journals or reports at high print resolution, or when regulatory compliance requires maximum-detail archival documentation. For live observation and demonstration where smooth real-time preview matters more than captured image detail, the CMEX-5 Pro (EDC-5000-PRO) provides faster frame rates.

ImageFocus Alpha Software

ImageFocus Alpha provides live preview with real-time adjustment, still image and video capture, calibrated dimensional measurements (length, area, angle, count) on live and captured images, annotations, image comparison, and standard format export. The 18MP resolution enables measurement on fine structures with higher precision than lower-resolution sensors — each pixel represents a smaller physical dimension, reducing measurement uncertainty. Compatible with Windows 10 and 11 (32/64-bit). Minimum recommended: 2GB RAM, 2.8GHz processor, 17-inch display.

CMEX-18 Pro vs. Ultra HD 4K Camera

The CMEX-18 Pro and the Ultra HD 4K camera (EVC-3042) serve different workflows. The CMEX-18 Pro is a USB-3 computer-dependent camera — it requires a Windows PC running ImageFocus Alpha for all viewing and capture. The 4K camera operates in standalone mode (HDMI to any monitor, embedded software) or PC mode (via Wi-Fi). The CMEX-18 Pro has higher still-image resolution (18MP vs 8.3MP) but the 4K camera offers higher video resolution (3840x2160 at 30fps) and standalone flexibility. Choose the CMEX-18 Pro for maximum still-image resolution and software-based measurement. Choose the 4K for standalone operation, 4K video, and multi-interface flexibility.

Microscope Compatibility

Connects directly to any trinocular microscope with C-mount or 23.2mm photo tube — all Globe Scientific iScope, bScope, BioBlue trinocular, NexiusZoom EVO, StereoBlue, and Delphi-X Observer models. Oxion microscopes require the EOX-9850 photo port adapter. Delphi-X Inverso requires a dedicated adapter.
