Bringing a smartphone, tablet, or SLR camera into a sterile field — operating room, sterile compounding suite, cleanroom — without compromising sterility requires more than a clean wipe-down. The eShield® Sterile Device Covers are individually sterile-packaged polyethylene covers that meet ASTM F1670 (blood and body fluid penetration resistance) and maintain sterility for 5 years from the packaging date. Clear film preserves photo quality and touchscreen responsiveness through gloves. Allows surgical reference apps, documentation, and high-resolution imaging in the sterile field without breaking sterile technique. Available for Smart Phone (EC2100, 9×14 in, CS 25), Tablet (EC2300, 14×18 in, CS 25), and SLR Camera (EC2400, 14×21 in, CS 20). USA manufactured.
Features and Benefits
ASTM F1670 compliant — blood and body fluid penetration resistance tested — ASTM F1670 is the standard test method for resistance of materials to penetration by blood and body fluids under conditions of continuous contact; compliance demonstrates that the cover material provides a barrier against biological fluid penetration, meeting the standard used for sterile barrier packaging in healthcare environments
5-year sterility shelf life — long-term sterile inventory management — each cover maintains sterility for 5 years from packaging date; enables bulk purchasing and sterile inventory management without the rapid expiration turnover of shorter-shelf-life sterile products; store in original sealed packaging away from moisture and UV exposure
Clear polyethylene film — full photo quality and touchscreen responsiveness — the optical clarity of the polyethylene film does not impair camera imaging quality for documentation; touchscreen compatibility allows full device operation including surgical reference apps, imaging apps, and documentation software through standard surgical gloves
Accommodates aseptic technique — designed for sterile field use — the cover is applied to the device using aseptic technique before entering the sterile field; once applied, the covered device can be handled, passed, and operated in the sterile field without contaminating the field; single-use disposable eliminates the risk of reprocessing failure
Three device sizes — Smart Phone, Tablet, SLR Camera — Smart Phone (9×14 in) covers standard smartphones including large-format models; Tablet (14×18 in) covers standard-size tablets; SLR Camera (14×21 in) covers professional SLR cameras used for intraoperative documentation and clinical photography

Laboratory Applications
Intraoperative Surgical Reference — OR Sterile Field — covering a tablet or smartphone for use by scrubbed surgical team members accessing surgical planning apps, imaging reference tools, and patient documentation systems during sterile procedures without breaking scrub
Sterile Compounding & Pharmaceutical Clean Room Photography — documenting sterile compounding procedures, capturing quality control images, and recording batch preparation steps with a covered camera or phone inside ISO-classified cleanrooms and pharmaceutical sterile suites
Clinical Photography — Intraoperative and Wound Documentation — SLR camera covers allow professional clinical photographers to document surgical procedures and wound status using full-quality SLR equipment inside the sterile field; maintains sterile technique while preserving the imaging quality of professional camera equipment
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply the cover using aseptic technique?
The cover is removed from its sterile packaging using standard aseptic opening technique — peel-open packaging allows the sterile cover to be presented to the scrubbed user without the outside packaging contacting the sterile field. The scrubbed user receives the cover, applies it to the device, and seals it before entry into the sterile field. Specific application technique should be defined in your facility's sterile technique SOP for electronic device use in the sterile field.
Can the covered device be autoclaved or re-sterilized?
No. These are single-use sterile covers. Do not autoclave or attempt to re-sterilize used covers. The polyethylene film and sterile integrity of the cover are designed for single-use application and disposal after each sterile field use. The 5-year shelf life applies to unopened, sealed packages stored under appropriate conditions — not to opened or used covers.
Quality Assurance
eShield® Sterile Device Covers are manufactured in the United States and packaged under controlled sterile conditions to achieve a 5-year sterility shelf life. ASTM F1670 compliance is verified by independent testing. Each cover is individually packaged in a sterile barrier package inspected for integrity before shipment.
